3rd rnd: Ch 2. 2 hdc in same sp as sl st. 2 hdc in each of next 3 sts. 1 hdc in each of next 5 sts. 1 dc in each of next 7 sts. 2 dc in each of next 5 sts. 1 dc in each of next 7 sts. 1 hdc in each of next 5 sts. 2 hdc in last st. Join with sl st to top of first hdc. 44 sts. Fasten off.
Sides

(Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. *Welt st in next st. Rep from * around. Join with sl st first st. 44 sts.

Toe Inset

With A, ch 10.
1st row: 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. 1 hdc in ch to end of chain. 8 hdc. Turn.

Attach Toe Inset and Strengthen Opening

With RS facing, join B with sl st in same st of loafer as last st of toe inset joining so that you are ready to work towards heel. 1 hdc in each st to first heel marker. (Hdc2tog) 3 times. 1 hdc in each st to toe inset. Sl st in same sp as last st of toe inset joining. Turn.
Working from inside the loafer, sl st firmly in each hdc to give upper edge of opening some strength. Fasten off.
Band (make 2)

Finishing
